Former India all-rounder Suresh Raina, one of the finest left-handers in the white-ball setup, has reacted to the special bond he shared with MS Dhoni during his international cricket career. Raina shares a great rapport with Dhoni, the former captain of Team India. While Raina is the most successful batsman for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Dhoni is the driving force of the three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions.
During their respective international careers, Raina and Dhoni saved Team India on several occasions by forming brilliant innings and match-winning partnerships. Despite bringing Team India to glory during his bitter-sweet white-ball career, Raina faced criticism for being a part of the Indian national team only because of his friendship with former captain Dhoni.
Suresh Raina’s statement
Facing constant criticism during his international career, Raina elaborated on his relationship with Dhoni in his autobiography. The CSK all-rounder said that he worked hard to make his way into the Indian national team. Raina also said that former captain Dhoni knows how to get the best out of him.
Raina wrote in his autobiography that Dhoni knew how to get the best out of me and I trusted him. It hurts a lot when people compare our relationship with a place for me in the Indian team. I have always worked hard to earn my place in Team India, I have earned Dhoni’s trust and respect.
Raina made his international debut in 2004, a year after Dhoni’s arrival was announced. Interestingly, when Dhoni said goodbye to his international career on August 15, 2020, Raina also joined him and announced his retirement.
