Mass brawl between Russia and Finland

After the match for bronze at the YJCHM-2010 in the Suomi team, they taunted that our nerves had lost, and they won not only by score, but also in a fight.

The Russian team went to the 2010 World Junior Championships with serious medal ambitions, because for three years in a row it climbed the podium, taking one gold and two silver. Our guys went through the group stage confidently, stumbling only once, in a match with the Finnish team.

Circumstances that strained the entire tournament – weak game discipline, incontinence and emotionality, which sometimes cost our guys dearly. In the quarter-finals, Russia barely got away from Switzerland – they were leading 4-0 five minutes before the end, but they conceded one goal, another, a third. In the semi-finals with Sweden, they led 1-0, but then they conceded twice in the minority, and in the end they could not restrain themselves and started to fight. “The fight at the end is already our emotions, because we lost …” – explained forward Vladislav Kartaev.

In the semi-finals, as it turned out, there were more flowers. So, a simple brawl, none of the actors was issued even a five-minute fine. Berries went in the match for third place with Finland. The head coach of the team, Mikhail Vasiliev, assured that the motivation of his guys for the Finns would be prohibitive, given the defeat in the group stage, and that past mistakes were studied and conclusions were drawn.

Alas, Finland again took over, although until the third period absolutely nothing was clear yet. Russia could not hold back the top three rivals Donskoy – Granlund – Pulkkinen, who dominated the ice and scored all five of their team’s goals.

Teemu opened the scoring in the majority in the second period, Granlund increased the advantage at the start of the third (also in the majority), and after another five minutes, Donskoy practically buried all the hopes of the Russians. Soon Pulkkinen scored a hat-trick, Russia was already on fire with a completely hopeless score of 0:5 and began to beat the Finns with their fists.

VIDEO.

It all started with Nikita Nesterov and his push in the back of Miikka Salomyaki. Our defender waited for the Finn to get up, poked him in the face, and a scuffle ensued. Other players ran to the batch – Maxim Shalunov went into hand-to-hand combat with Miro Hovinen, and Zakhar Arzamastsev got together with Patrick Moisio – pulled off his mask and began to furiously beat him up. Moisio also did not lag behind and threw the offender on the ice, but when the judge was still able to separate them, the Finn’s face was bloody.

During the match, the opponents scored almost 200 penalty minutes for two, and after a mass brawl, ours remained in the minority. Only in this situation Russia was able to score a goal of prestige, but that was already little consolation. We didn’t bring any gold or any medal from Minsk, and the Finns sneered after the game:

“It was assumed that the Russians would lose their temper. Actually, they lost their nerve with Sweden. Fortunately, we had big guys on the ice, so we also won the fisticuffs, ”said Finland’s head coach Sakari Pietilä.
