MOSCOW, 21 July – Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin awarded two-time Olympic biathlon champion Viktor Mamatov with the Nikolai Ozerov medal, according to the website of the Russian Biathlon Union.
Mamatov was awarded “for special personal merits and achievements in the field of physical culture and sports.”
Mamatov won two gold medals in the relay at the 1968 Olympics in Grenoble and the 1972 Games in Sapporo. He is also a four-time world champion, silver and bronze medalist of world championships. Mamatov – Honored Master of Sports of the USSR and Honored Coach of the USSR.
