The Sun: Mayweather in talks to fight McGregor for $1.5bn
MOSCOW, 8 Oct – American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. can hold two fights with the former champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in two weight categories Irishman Conor McGregor for 1.5 billion dollars, according to The Sun.
In August 2017, Mayweather defeated McGregor by TKO in the tenth round.
According to the source, the parties are currently negotiating. Mayweather and McGregor can fight under the rules of boxing, and then fight under the rules of MMA. The fight with McGregor could be Mayweather’s first under MMA rules. If the parties reach an agreement, the fights will have to take place in 2023. One of them may take place in Abu Dhabi (UAE), and the other – in Saudi Arabia.
Mayweather is 45 years old, the American remains an undefeated boxer, in 50 fights he has 50 wins (27 by knockout). The athlete has a bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics in the weight category up to 57 kg. McGregor is 34 years old. In July 2021, he suffered a broken leg in a duel against American Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 and has not fought since. He has 22 wins and six losses to his credit and previously held the UFC championship belts in the lightweight and featherweight divisions.
