MOSCOW, 20 Jul – The first racket of the world Russian Daniil Medvedev and Serb Novak Djokovic entered the application list of the US Open tennis championship (US Open), which is published on the official website of the tournament.
Djokovic is in the list on the seventh line. Among the Russians, Andrey Rublev (8th place), Karen Khachanov (26) and Aslan Karatsev (37) are also declared in the main draw. Daria Kasatkina (12), Ekaterina Aleksandrova (28), Lyudmila Samsonova (56), Varvara Gracheva (59), Anastasia Potapova (63), Anna Kalinskaya (70), Evgenia Rodina (73) and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (97).
Medvedev is the reigning US Open winner. In 2021, he defeated Djokovic, winner of the previous three Grand Slams of that season, in the final. For the Russian, this title was the first in this category.
Djokovic risks missing the US Open due to the country’s current coronavirus regulations. Previously, the athlete due to refusal to be vaccinated was not allowed to the first Grand Slam tournament of the season – the Australian Open.
The US Open will run from August 29 to September 11. Russian and Belarusian tennis players are allowed to ATP and WTA tournaments in a neutral status in all countries except the UK.
