MOSCOW, July 21 — Ex-midfielder of the Moscow “Spartak” Alexander Mostovoy spoke about how his former teammate Valery Karpin did not want to return to Russia from Spain after the end of his career.
The current coach of the Russian national team played in the Spanish championship from 1994 to 2005. In 2008, he came to Moscow, becoming the general director of Spartak.

“Karpin didn’t even want to live in Russia, but then someone thought him up: “Don’t you want to go to Spartak? The government is changing there right now. “And he became the general director,” Mostovoy said in an interview with Sport24.

According to the ex-footballer, Karpin later saw that he could try himself as a coach.

“Then Valera saw that he could also climb as a coach – and he climbed. He didn’t have a piece of paper, nothing, but he was appointed acting. He entered the HSE, a year later they gave this piece of paper. Now he is officially a coach. Although he just agreed” , – added Mostovoy.

At the moment, Valery Karpin is also the coach of Rostov. Previously, he headed Spartak, Spanish Mallorca and Armavir Torpedo.
