Mumbai Indians (MI) unleashed a bowling masterclass to rattle Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a thrilling IPL 2025 encounter at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

Led by Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult, MI’s bowlers reduced SRH to a shaky 144/8 in 20 overs, setting up a chaseable target. Heinrich Klaasen’s explosive 71 and Abhinav Manohar’s gritty 43 sparked a late recovery for SRH, but MI’s relentless attack stole the show.

Opting to bowl after winning the toss, MI struck early. Deepak Chahar set the tone, conceding just two runs in the opening over. Trent Boult followed, dismissing SRH opener Travis Head for a duck on the second ball of the second over, caught by Naman Dhir. Boult’s fiery spell continued, troubling SRH’s batsmen with pace and swing.
Chahar struck again in the third over, removing Ishan Kishan for one, leaving SRH at 12/2 after three overs. Boult’s third wicket came in the fourth over, trapping Abhishek Sharma (8) in a clever setup, caught by Vignesh Puthur. By the fifth over, Chahar claimed Nitish Kumar Reddy, caught by Mitchell Santner, as SRH crumbled to 15/4.
Jasprit Bumrah, introduced in the sixth over, faced resistance from Aniket Verma, who smashed a boundary and added two doubles. However, SRH’s powerplay ended at a dismal 24/4, the lowest in IPL 2025 so far, etching an unwanted record for the hosts.

The pair added 13 runs in the eighth and ninth overs, with Mitchell Santner and Hardik Pandya struggling to break through. Pandya finally dismissed Verma (12) in the ninth over, leaving SRH at 37/5.
Klaasen found an able partner in Abhinav Manohar, and the duo unleashed a barrage of boundaries. In the 10th over, Klaasen hammered three fours off Vignesh Puthur, pushing SRH past 50. The 12th over saw Klaasen and Manohar plunder 16 runs off Pandya, including three boundaries, as SRH’s score raced to 68.

Bumrah struck a crucial blow in the 19th over, dismissing Klaasen (71) via a Tilak Varma catch, ending a 97-run stand. SRH reached 134/6, with Pat Cummins joining Manohar. In the final over, Boult returned to remove Manohar (43) and Cummins (1), restricting SRH to 144/8. Chahar (3/24) and Boult (3/28) led MI’s bowling, with Pandya and Bumrah chipping in with one wicket each.
