MOSCOW, September 16 – British tennis player Andy Murray dedicated his strong-willed victory in the Davis Cup group stage match against Swiss Leandro Riedi to his deceased grandmother.

In the opening match, 36-year-old Murray beat Riedi with a score of 6:7 (7:9), 6:4, 6:4. After the match, he could not hold back his tears and admitted that he missed his grandmother Ellen’s funeral in order to play for the Great Britain team at this tournament.

The teams of Great Britain, Australia, France and Switzerland compete in the group stage of the Davis Cup in Manchester. They will play each other in a round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the Final Eight, which will be held in November in Malaga, Spain.
