MOSCOW, 12 Sep – 22 Grand Slam winner Rafael Nadal congratulated Spaniard Carlos Alcaras with a victory at the US Open tennis championship and expressed confidence that this is not the last success of a 19-year-old compatriot.
In the US Open final on Sunday, Alcaraz beat Norway’s Kasper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-3. The Spaniard won the Grand Slam for the first time in his career, and also became the youngest winner of the US Open since 1990. “Carlos, congratulations on your first Grand Slam victory and the title of the first racket of the world. This is the pinnacle of your first big season, of which I am sure there will be a lot,” Nadal addressed Alcaraz on his Twitter.
Nadal also supported Ruud, who played in a Grand Slam final for the second time in his career. Earlier this year, the Norwegian became a finalist at Roland Garros.
“Casper, I’m proud of you. Today was not lucky, but it was an amazing tournament and season. Keep up the good work!”, – wrote the ex-first racket of the world.
