MOSCOW, 9 Sep – Sports director of the Italian “Napoli” Christiano Giuntoli spoke about unsuccessful negotiations with the Kazan “Rubin” on the transfer of midfielder of the Georgian national team Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.
According to him, the Georgian footballer could have moved to Napoli earlier, but the club refused to buy because of the price announced by Rubin.
“The first time I saw Khvicha on video was when the quarantine was in full swing. We watched it together with (Gennaro) Gattuso, and we immediately liked the player. I remember we called (Kakhe) Kaladze to find out more about him. They asked for him 30 million euros, so we stopped contacts even before the negotiations started. We signed (Viktor) Osimhen and could not allocate so much for Khvicha. But he remained on our pencil. When he returned to Georgia in February 2022 to Dynamo Batumi “We went there with a contract and agreed on a transfer fee of 10 million euros,” Corriere dello Sport quoted Giuntoli as saying.
Kvaratskhelia signed a contract with Napoli in July. In the first five rounds of the Italian championship, the 21-year-old midfielder scored four goals and gave an assist. Kvaratskhelia was named the best player in Serie A in August.
