MOSCOW, 26 Jul – IndyCar champion Joseph Newgarden has been discharged from the medical center where he was taken after an accident in a race at the Iowa stage, according to the official website of IndyCar.
Newgarden had an accident at the end of Sunday’s race in Iowa. He was examined and discharged from the medical center. After that, the rider managed to talk to reporters, but soon lost consciousness and was hospitalized back to the medical center with a cut on the back of his head, and then transferred to a local hospital.
“The examination did not reveal any injuries to the two-time IndyCar champion, he was discharged and went home to Nashville. According to series protocol, he will be examined by the IndyCar medical team on Thursday to get cleared to race. If Newgarden is unable to participate, Santino Ferrucci will replace him at the wheel,” the statement said.
The 31-year-old Newgarden has two championship titles in the series, 24 wins and 45 podiums.
