“Boston” recovered slightly, “Minnesota” and “Edmonton” turned the series, and “Tampa” is still in a fever.

On the night of May 6-7, the next matches of the Stanley Cup 2022 were held in the NHL. Let’s summarize them.

After two matches in Raleigh, Boston was in an extremely difficult position – Bruce Cassidy’s wards lost two starting games, while for the entire season the Bears lost to rivals in all five matches with a terrifying total score of 26: 4, which did not promise the Bruins nothing good before the next game. As well as its beginning – Trochek opened an account in the middle of the first period.

However, then the transformation of “Boston” began – even before the end of the twenty-minute period, the hosts played in the minority, and then broke away from the “hurricanes” by three goals, providing themselves with a comfortable advantage by the end of regular time. All that was enough for the Hurricanes was Slavin’s goal nine and a half minutes before the siren. As a result – 4:2 in favor of the Bruins and the first defeat in the NHL for Peter Kochetkov, who today went on the ice from the first minutes and repelled 24 out of 28 shots.

Toronto shocked everyone with a convincing victory in the first match of the series with the reigning champion with a score of 5: 0, but in the return game on the ice of the “leaves”, Tampa got together and took a labor revenge. It seemed that the Lightning would not give the Leafs a single victory on their ice, but the Canadians had their own plans for this – by the middle of the third period, a disappointing 0:3 was burning on the Amali Arena scoreboard, while in the second goal Russian Toronto defender Ilya Lyubushkin took part, who unexpectedly acted as a playmaker and made the first assist in the playoffs.

The Lightning pulled back two goals through the efforts of Colton and Palat, but they failed to at least take the game into overtime. At the same time, the “leaves” managed to increase the final lead to three goals. I tried another Russian from the squad of Sheldon Keefe – Ilya Mikheev, who became the author of a unique achievement for the Maple Leafs. The 27-year-old forward is the first player in Toronto history to score a double against an empty net in the playoffs.

Tampa Bay goaltender Andrei Vasilevsky has been undefeated in two consecutive Stanley Cup games since 2020. At the same time, his statistics in games after single defeats is impressive – 15 wins, 5 shutouts, 1.31 KN and 94.8% OB. Whether this series will last, we will find out the day after tomorrow.

After an unsuccessful first match in the series, Minnesota decided to take St. Louis by storm – in the second game, the Savages led 3-0 already by the break, and in the third match they scored two goals in the first two minutes and 18 seconds of the meeting. The second goal, scored by Kirill Kaprizov, broke the record for the fastest two-goal scoring in a playoff game, which was previously 5 minutes and 16 seconds, by the Wild.

As it turned out later, Kaprizov’s puck was also victorious – the “bluesmen” were only enough for one goal, which Ryan O’Reilly scored with a score of 0:4. Thanks to this, Kirill took second place in the history of Minnesota in terms of the number of winning goals in the Stanley Cup.

Brodin’s goal into an empty net seven and a half minutes before the siren set the final result – 5: 1, the “savages” for the first time in the series take the lead.

Having lost to Los Angeles at the beginning of the series, Edmonton wound up and in the next two games simply mocked the Kings, first defeating them at home with a dry score of 6-0, and two days later humiliating the Kings on their own court. By the middle of the match, the Oilers were leading 5-0 – needless to say, by that time Todd McLellan had managed to change the goalkeeper and, perhaps, think about the meaning of life. Los Angeles pulled back two goals after that, but the Oilers pinned him down with three goals in the final twenty minutes. 8:2 – “Kings” urgently need to change something.

Hero of the day

Evander Kane continues his reincarnation. After a confident second half of the regular season as part of the Edmonton, the Canadian started the playoffs with a bang – thanks to today’s hat-trick against Los Angeles, the forward came out on top in the lists of snipers (five goals) and scorers (six points) of this draw Stanley Cup.

Quote of the Day

“An insidious, insidious person,” the NHL press service playfully reacted to Kirill Kaprizov’s goal against St. Louis.

incident of the day

At the match between “Boston” and “Carolina”, an employee of the “bears” arena got it: a protective glass fell on him in a penalty box. The man had to be taken away on a special gurney – let’s hope that everything will manage with a slight fright.
