“St. Louis”, “Boston”, “Tampa” and “Los Angeles” synchronously equalized in their series.

On the eve of the NHL playoffs, four matches of the first round of the playoffs took place. In all four cases, success was achieved by teams that lagged behind in the series. Now the score in these confrontations is equal – 2-2.

“St. Louis” hosted “Minnesota”. The advantage of the hosts was obvious from the first shifts, but until the middle of the meeting, the “savages” managed to keep the score equal. In the starting period, the “musicians” took the lead for a short time: Kirill Kaprizov lost the puck in a foreign zone and allowed the Blues to launch a productive attack. However, 10 minutes later, the Russian threw himself: being in a dense environment of four opponents, he contrived to make a one-touch throw.

The turning point in the fate of the match occurred in 54 seconds. On the equator of the game, St. Louis, through the efforts of David Perron and Jordan, Cairo secured a comfortable two-goal lead. One of them “Wild” played in the third segment, but there were not enough guests for more. During the last two minutes, Perron scored a double, hitting an empty net, and O’Reilly converted the majority and set the final score – 5:2.

Kaprizov’s puck became his fifth in the current playoffs. Thus, Kirill repeated the Minnesota record for the number of goals in one playoff series. In the current Stanley Cup season, the striker shares first place in the list of snipers with Edmonton’s Evander Kane and David Perron.

In the earliest meeting of the game day, Boston fought the Carolinas. As a result, the Bears turned out to be stronger with the same score as St. Louis. However, the nature of the struggle turned out to be completely different. The Bruins had to come back twice: first in the first period, and then in the very debut of the second. Boston successfully coped with this task, and in the third 20-minute period they scored three unanswered goals.

The most significant contribution to the victory was made by the team leaders: the scandalous Canadian Brad Marchand, who recently paid the NHL $ 5,000 for offending Petr Kochetkov, showed his bright side and scored both a sniper and an assistant double, Patrice Bergeron had three points, David Pastrnak – two. But the stars of the Carolinas were silent: both Sebastian Aho and Andrey Svechnikov left the ice without scores. The Russian striker in the current Stanley Cup has only a modest 1 + 1.

“Tampa” mercilessly cracked down on “Toronto”. The outcome of the match was a foregone conclusion eight minutes after the starting face-off, when Maroon scored the third goal against Jack Campbell. At the start of the second period, the hosts increased the odds to five goals. The Lightning realized the majority thanks to Nikita Kucherov: the Russian with a stick conducted the attack of his partners, and when he himself received the puck, he gave Corey Perry a one-touch pass.

The replacement of the goaltender allowed Toronto to stop bullying its own defense. In the final period, the Maple Leaves indicated their intentions to return to the game: William Nylander scored a brace within 10 minutes. But it was too late to save: the sixth and seventh washers “Tampa” rolled into an empty net.

Los Angeles goaltender Jonathan Quick had a flawless night. The 36-year-old goaltender handled all of Edmonton’s threats and scored the 10th playoff shutout of his career.

Quick had to parry 31 shots. But his counterpart – Mike Smith – had a much more difficult fate. “Kings” encroached on Smith’s possessions 46 times and were successful four times. The Kings scored two goals in the first period and then relatively calmly controlled the course of the meeting. Connor McDavid left the ice with a utility score of -2.

Goal of the day

This puck would not have happened without Matt Dumba’s most stupid mistake. The Minnesota defenseman fired a great pass to Ryan O’Reilly, who brought Jordan Kaira into position. But the St. Louis striker didn’t just throw: instead, he launched into a high-speed pass, gracefully missed the puck between the skates and left Fleury himself in the cold.

Save of the day

There was no NHL goaltender more reliable than Jonathan Quick that night, and it would be wrong to single out one of his saves from the collection. The most experienced goalkeeper saved Los Angeles from the most hopeless situations, sometimes the Edmonton hockey players simply shot him point-blank with the puck. But Quick worked responsibly from the first minute to the last and did not relax, even when the victory of his team became obvious.
