MOSCOW, 24 July – The silver medalist of the 2020 Olympic Games, Mikhail Vekovishchev, won the international competitions “Friendship Games” and the Russian Cup Final in Kazan in the 100-meter butterfly.
The athlete’s result is 51.58 seconds. The second place was taken by Petr Zhikharev (51.64), the third – Andrey Zhilkin (51.82).
At a distance of 200 meters, Anastasia Sorokina won gold (2:13.67). Silver was shared by Victoria Starostina and Anna Chernysheva (2:13.23).
Anton Korobov became the first in the 800m freestyle (8:51.53). Ilya Vanteev finished second (8:52.87), and Nikita Borozdov was third (9:00.51).
The winner of the 100m breaststroke was Evgenia Chikunova (1:06.60). The second place was taken by Nika Godun (1:06.81), the third – the representative of Belarus Alina Zhmushka (1:07.88). Maria Temnikova was third in the Russian Cup standings (1:08.01).
International swimming competitions “Friendship Games” will last in Kazan until July 25. In March, the International Swimming Federation (FINA) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.
