Multan Sultans defeated Karachi Kings by 12 runs in the 16th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL 2021) played in Abu Dhabi. Riley Rossouw was adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant innings.
Karachi Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first and they lost the wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz (3) for 4 in the very first over. Shoaib Maqsood made 31 runs in 14 balls with the help of 5 fours and a six and was dismissed as the second wicket for 40. From here, Mohammad Rizwan (29 runs in 23 balls) and Riley Russo (44 runs in 24 balls, 7 fours) shared a partnership of 68 runs to take the team’s score beyond 100. However, Multan’s team came under pressure due to the fall of first Russo and then Rizwan in the 11th over. Shimron Hetmyer also could not do much and by 14.4 overs, the team’s score was 128-5.
In the end, Sohail Tanveer and Khushdil Shah shared a 48-run partnership to take the team’s score to 176-5 in 20 overs. Tanveer scored 14* runs in 14 balls, while Shah scored 44* runs in 32 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes. Thisara Perera took the highest two wickets for Karachi Kings.
Babar Azam, while chasing 177 runs, definitely scored a brilliant half-century for Karachi Kings. However, players like Sharjeel Khan (4), Martin Guptill (11) and Najibullah Zadran (11) could not do much. Azam got good support from Chadwick Walton (35 off 23 balls) and the two shared a 77-run partnership. Karachi needed 23 runs in the last over and they could only manage 10 runs and they lost three wickets.
Azam did not get the strike in the last over and he could only make 164-7. Azam scored 83 * in 63 balls with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes, but he could not win the team. For Multan Sultans, Imran Khan took the maximum 3 and Imran Tahir took two wickets.
