“Phoenix” received a forfeit defeat in the Super League match due to COVID-19 in 10 handball players

MOSCOW, 24 Jan – The match of the Russian women’s handball championship between “Phoenix” and the Russian “Astrakhanochka” was canceled due to the coronavirus in 10 handball players from the Chinese club, according to the website of the Russian Handball Federation (FHR).
“Phoenix” turned to the FGR with a request to resolve the issue of holding a match with the Astrakhan team, which was scheduled for January 25. The club was diagnosed with coronavirus in 10 handball players, which is more than 51% of the team. At the same time, “Phoenix” did not ask to postpone the meeting.
The Chinese club was given a forfeit defeat with a score of 0:10, the decision can be appealed to the FGR Sports and Arbitration Commission within 10 days.
Phoenix has been a member of the Russian Super League since the 2022/23 season. The club is 10th out of 13 places in the national championship, gaining 13 points in 23 matches.
