Manchester United beat West Ham 1-0 on Saturday.
Old Trafford waited a very long time until Marcus Rashford scored in the 93rd minute (from an assist by Edinson Cavani). Thanks to the victory, Manchester United squeezed into the top four, pushing just the team of David Moyes.
It’s a big moment for Rashford: Marcus scored in two consecutive Premier League games for the first time since December 2020 with a goal against Brentford on Wednesday. Prior to this, Markus had not scored in 11 matches since the end of October. For the out-of-shape and self-confident striker, the week has definitely been a good one.
Rashford also made history by now having 4 Premier League winning goals in 90+ minutes. At Manchester United, no one has scored more than two, and on a league scale, Marcus has a pleasant company:
4 β Ian Wright
4 – Steven Gerrard
πΈπ³ 4 – Papiss Cisse
π§πͺ 4 β Christian Benteke
πΈπ³ 4 – Sadie Manet
4 – Marcus Rashford
Until Saturday, Rashford’s collection of winning goals in injury time looked like this:
90+3, December 2020. Manchester United 1-0 Wolves
90+2, November 2018. Bournemouth 1-2 Manchester United
90+2, August 2016. Hull 0-1 Manchester United
Now it’s West Ham.
But Rashford’s most valuable late goal was not in the Premier League. You all remember: March 2019, the 1/8 finals of the Champions League, PSG against Man United – and a penalty in the 94th minute.
