RPL announced the dates of the play-offs for the right to participate in the league
MOSCOW, June 21 – Play-offs for the right to play in the top division of the Russian Football Championship in the 2023/24 season will be held on June 6-7 and June 9-10, 2023, according to the official website of the Russian Premier League (RPL).
On Tuesday, the RPL calendar for the 2022/23 season was presented. The league noted that the reasons why the calendar was presented less than a month before the start of the season were the restrictions reported by the clubs and discussions on the structure of the championship. It is also noted that due to the inaccessibility of airports in a number of cities, the calendar had to be drawn up in such a way as to minimize the number of “difficult departures” in a row.
When preparing the calendar, the league had to take into account, among other things, the situation with the replacement of the turf at the Moscow Spartak stadium, the preparations for the stadium in Voronezh, and restrictions related to the arena being busy for other events during the season. Seven clubs at once will start the season with two away matches in a row.
It also took into account the fact that since the beginning of the season, to attend RPL matches at the arenas of the Ural (Yekaterinburg), Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov (Rostov-on-Don), Wings of the Soviets (Samara) and Sochi clubs a fan ID card will be required. Other stadiums will join the project in the second part of the season.
The RPL added that a break in the tournament for the World Cup in Qatar is provided in connection with the need to follow the rules of the International Football Federation. Legionnaires who are called up to their national teams play in Russian clubs.
A detailed schedule of the first five rounds of the championship, indicating the dates and start times of the matches, will be published after the league agrees on time slots with the main broadcaster.
