CSKA found a new legionnaire

Serb Zdelar played three times for the national team and twice in the match against Russia.

In the summer, CSKA lost 11 players. So far, only Milan Gajic has come to replace them and, it seems, another Serbian player is on the way. CSKA agreed with Partizan on the transfer of defensive midfielder Sasha Zdelar. According to the “Championship”, in the near future the deal will be finally closed, and a contract has been signed with the 27-year-old player.

Who is Sasha Zdelar

Zdelar is the world champion among youth teams as part of the Serbian national team under 20 years old. The midfielder began his career at OFK Belgrade, but a year and a half later he moved to Olympiacos. Being a player of the Greek club, Sasha played for the OFC for two more years on loan, and then became the champion of Greece and the finalist of the National Cup in the 2015/2016 season. But at the start of Olympiacos, Zdelar failed to gain a foothold, and he again spent the first half of 2017 on loan, this time at Mallorca. The midfielder was trusted in Spain and released from the first minutes.

In the summer of 2017, Zdelar returned to Olympiacos and again went on loan to Partizan. Subsequently, he signed a full-fledged contract with him (the cost of the transfer is € 500 thousand). In four years in Belgrade, the midfielder played 197 matches, scored six goals and 21 assists, won the Serbian Cup twice, and in July 2020 became team captain.

Zdelar made his debut for the Serbian national team on May 31, 2016, coming on as a substitute in a friendly game against Israel. Five days later, he appeared at the game with Russia, but only for a minute. Since then, the midfielder did not appear in the national team until November 2020, when he received a call-up to the games of the League of Nations. Then he came out again (and again for one minute) in a match with Russia with a score of 5:0. Thus, Sasha held three meetings for the national team and has not received an invitation since 2020.

What stands out Sasha Zdelar

Zdelar plays a lot in Partizan. In the 2018/2019 season, when the midfielder won the second Serbian Cup, he made 45 appearances for the club in all competitions. A year later, Zdelar again became Partizan’s most ironclad player, playing 42 games and only missing three games in all competitions. And in the 2021/2022 season, the opornik generally reached the mark of 50 matches per season.

As for individual performance, Sasha shows phenomenal pass accuracy over the season (88-90% on average), wins 60% of duels, and last season he hit on goal more often – however, he hit the target only four times after 41 attempts. Zdelar will compete in CSKA with Maxim Mukhin. Unlike the ex-player of Lokomotiv, the Serb is more focused on defensive actions. Instat data for the 2021/2022 season confirms this.

Zdelar bites into every ball in the defensive zone, engages in pressure and compensates for mistakes in martial arts due to active pressure on the opponent. In addition, the midfielder conducts the center of the field and often uses long passes, thus winning back a group of opposing players with one pass.

“You don’t need those comparisons to Fernandez.” First interview with newcomer CSKA Gajic

After the departure of Jean-Philippe Gbamin, CSKA was left with one defensive midfielder. The arrival of Zdelar will not only compete with Mukhin, but will also strengthen this position. By the way, Sasha is familiar with Milan Gayich – together they played for OFK.
