MOSCOW, 21 July – Kazakhstan’s Nora Jeruto won gold in the 3000m hurdles at the World Championships in Athletics, which takes place in Eugene, USA.
Jeruto covered the distance in 8 minutes 53.02 seconds, which is the best result of the world championships. Ethiopia’s Verkuha Getachew (8:54.61) was second with a national record, while her compatriot Mekides Abebe (8:56.08) was third with a personal best.
The gold medal of the naturalized Kenyan Jeruto became the first for Kazakhstan in the history of the world championships.
In the women’s discus throw, China’s Feng Bin (69.12 m) won with the best result in her career. Second place was taken by Croatian Sandra Perkovic (68.45), the third was the champion of the 2020 Olympic Games, American Valary Allman (68.30).
The World Championships in Athletics will end on July 24. The Council of the World Athletics Association (World Athletics) on March 1, against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from participating in international tournaments, including the World Championships in Eugene. Prior to that, due to a doping scandal, since 2015, the Russians had the right to play in a neutral status.
