Ryan Giggs steps down as Wales manager

MOSCOW, June 20 – Ryan Giggs has resigned as head coach of the Wales national football team, according to the official website of the Football Association of Wales (FAW).
In November 2020, the media reported that Giggs had been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a girl. Since then, the specialist has not led the national team. In April 2021, the Crown Prosecution Service charged Giggs with assaulting two women. The former Manchester United footballer has pleaded not guilty.
“After much thought, I am stepping down as manager of the Wales men’s team. It has been an honor and privilege to manage my country’s team, but it would be right for the Welsh Football Association, coaching staff and players to prepare for the World Cup with confidence, clarity and no speculation around position of my head coach. I do not want the preparation of the national team for the World Cup to be affected, destabilized or jeopardized because of the continued interest in this matter, “Giggs said, quoted by Wales Online.
“The Welsh Football Association confirms the personal statement released by Ryan Giggs on 20 June 2022. The FAW formally thanks Ryan Giggs for his tenure as men’s national team manager and appreciates his decision, which is in the best interests of Welsh football,” the FAW said in a statement.
The Welsh will take part in the World Cup this year for the first time since 1958.
