MOSCOW, 22 Jul – Spanish Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz will be fined ten positions at the French Grand Prix after replacing an engine component, according to the Formula 1 website.
Sainz’s car caught fire on lap 58 of the Austrian Grand Prix on 10 July. The Spaniard had to finish the race ahead of schedule. Ferrari this weekend for the third time this season has replaced the control electronics on the car Sainz with two replacements allowed.
It is noted that the Italian team may also decide to change other components of the power plant on Sainz’s car, which could lead to additional penalties on the grid.
The French Grand Prix will take place on Sunday.
