Shesterkin entered the top three contenders for the NHL Most Valuable Player Award “Hart Trophy”
MOSCOW, May 12 – Russian goaltender “New York Rangers” Igor Shesterkin entered the shortlist of contenders for his second individual prize in the current season of the National Hockey League (NHL) – “Hart Memorial Trophy”, according to the official website of the league.
The Hart Trophy is awarded to the player who has made the greatest contribution to his team’s success in the NHL regular season. The winner is determined by a vote of the NHL Journalists’ Association representative offices in each of the cities where there are NHL clubs.
In addition to Shesterkin, Edmonton Oilers captain forward Connor McDavid and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews also claim the prize.
Earlier, Shesterkin became one of three contenders for the Vezina Trophy, the prize for the best goalkeeper of the regular season. Before Shesterkin, Russian hockey players won the Hart Trophy six times. Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin received the award three times, Sergey Fedorov (Detroit Red Wings), Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins) and Nikita Kucherov (Tampa Bay Lightning) once more.
