MOSCOW, 20 Jul – Slovenian Tadej Pogacar of the UAE Team Emirates won the 17th stage of the Tour de France multi-day cycling race.
The current winner of the stage race covered the distance of 130 km in 3 hours 25 minutes 51 seconds. Dane Jonas Wingegaard (Jumbo-Visma) finished second with the same time. Third came American Brandon McNulty of UAE Team Emirates (32 seconds back).
Russian Bora-Hansgrohe cyclist Alexander Vlasov, who competes under a neutral flag, took eighth place (+3.32).
Leadership in the general classification after 17 stages is retained by Vingegaard. His overall result is 67 hours 53 minutes 54 seconds. The second is Pogachar (+2.18), the third is Briton Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers, +4.56). Vlasov is on the eighth line (+9.56).
Polish rider Rafal Majka of UAE Team Emirates withdrew from the Tour de France ahead of stage 17. He had ruptured a muscle during a lift in the previous leg. Earlier, the team also lost Spaniard Marc Soler, who suffered from heatstroke.
Stage 17, 143.5 km long, will take place on July 21. The cycling race will finish on July 24 in Paris.
