South Africa won by one run in the first match of the three T20 matches series against England. South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi bowled brilliantly in the match, with South Africa registering a thrilling win in the first T20 match played in East London.
South Africa had scored 177 runs in 20 overs losing eight wickets. Team captain Quinton de Kock (31) and Temba Bavuma (43) gave South Africa a quick start, sharing a 48-run partnership for the first wicket.
Seeing the innings of Jason Roy and captain Oyen Morgan, England was expected to easily achieve the target of 178 runs. However, there was an exciting twist in the match in the last three overs in which England scored 24 runs after losing six wickets and only a score of 176.
The last over Lungi Ngidi came to bowl and at that time England had to score 7 runs to win. On the first ball, Tom Karan scored two runs playing. On the very next ball, he was caught by David Miller. Moin Ali could not take any runs on the third ball of the over. On the fourth ball, there was an appeal of LBW against him, but after the review, not wicket.
However, Lungi Ngidi bowled him on the fifth ball and brought the match to an exciting turn. On the last ball, Adil Rashid had a chance to tie the score with a single for which he ran to take the run, but Steyn gave a pass to skipper DeKock from mid-wicket, who dismissed Rashid. England was able to score only 176 runs in 20 overs.
