Spalletti is among the nominees for the FIFA Coach of the Year title
MOSCOW, September 14 – The head of the Italian national football team, Luciano Spalletti, who previously worked at Zenit St. Petersburg, was among the nominees for the title of best coach of the year according to FIFA, the official website of the organization reports.
Other contenders for the prize include Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Xavi (Barcelona), Simone Inzaghi (Inter) and Angelos Postecoglou (Tottenham).
The nominees for best women’s coach are Peter Gerhardsson (Sweden), Jonathan Giraldes (Barcelona), Tony Gustavsson (Australia), Emma Hayes (Chelsea) and Sarina Wigman (England).
Jorge Vilda, who won the World Cup with the Spanish team, was not included in the list of contenders. Earlier, the media reported that the specialist supported the ex-head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales after the scandal with a kiss against football player Jennifer Hermoso during the celebration of victory at the World Cup final. The Spanish team won the world championship for the first time in history.
In the men’s category, achievements were taken into account in the period from December 19, 2022 to August 20, 2023, in the women’s category – from August 1, 2022 to August 20, 2023.
