Five-time Olympic basketball champion Bird announces her retirement from the WNBA

MOSCOW, June 16 – Five-time Olympic champion, four-time world basketball champion in the US team Sue Bird announced her retirement from the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) at the end of this season.
“I decided this would be my last year. I loved this game every minute on the court and still do, so I will play my last year just like that little girl played her first.” the athlete wrote on Instagram (the activities of Meta (social networks Facebook and Instagram) are banned in Russia as extremist).
Bird, who turns 42 in October, spent her entire North American career with the Seattle Storm, with whom she won four league titles in 19 seasons and was named to the All-Star team five times. The basketball player holds the league record for assists (3,114) and games played (559).
For 10 years (2004-2014) Bird played in Russia for Dynamo (Moscow), Spartak (Vidnoye) and UMMC (Yekaterinburg) clubs, with whom she won the Euroleague five times.
