The battle in the 4th round of the US Open with Australian Nick Kiryos for Daniil Medvedev is the main fight on the way to the final. 3 weeks ago, the Russian lost to him in Montreal. Will there be a rematch now?

Results of the 6th day. September 3, Saturday

On Saturday at the US Open – 2022, the matches of the 3rd round of the singles ended. In men, representatives of the lower part of the grid played that day. The most intense was the battle between the last Russian in this part of the grid, Andrei Rublev (9th seed) and Canadian with Russian roots Denis Shapovalov (19). Several times the initiative passed from hand to hand, then one or another tennis player was in the lead in the score, and yet the fate of the match after more than 4 hours of struggle was decided on the super tie-break of the 5th set, on which Rublev was more successful. It should be noted that Andrei won the second five-set in the tournament – in the first round he managed in five games with Serb Laszlo Djere.

Rublev’s opponent in the 4th round will be Briton Cameron Norrie (7), who defeated Dane Rune (28) in three sets. The leaders of the seeding in this half of the grid, the Spaniards Carlos Alcaras (3) and Rafael Nadal (2), did not give up in this circle to the rivals either. Raphael met with his old acquaintance – from junior times – Frenchman Richard Gasquet, with whom he had a dry score of personal meetings in the professional tour – 17-0. Nadal did not change the traditions this time either, even giving his opponent an offensive “steering wheel” in the starting set. Well, their personal score is now 18-0.

Now in the 4th round, Rafael will fight with the American Francis Tiafoe (22), and Alcaraz – with the Croatian Marin Cilic (15). Recall that both Spaniards continue to fight for 1st place in the rankings at the end of the tournament. They also compete with current world ranking leader Daniil Medvedev and Norwegian Kasper Ruud (5).

Representatives of the upper part of the bracket fought in the women’s tournament. The confrontation between the two Slams champions, Petra Kvitova and Garbine Muguruza, turned out to be interesting. Petra was able to bounce back from 0:1 in sets, save herself from two match points at the end of the 3rd set and win the super tie-break in almost 3 hours of struggle. But the first racket of the world, Iga Swiatek, as well as the Belarusians Arina Sabolenko (6) and Victoria Azarenka (26), passed the next rivals without losing a set.
