MOSCOW, 17 Aug – Hockey players of the Finnish national team beat the German team in the 1/4 final match of the World Youth Championship (under 20), which takes place in Edmonton, Canada.
The meeting ended with the score 5:2 (3:1, 0:1, 2:0) in favor of the Finnish hockey players. As part of the winners, Kasper Simontaival (4th minute), Roni Hirvonen (12), Robi Jarventi (15, 47) and Joel Mätta (56) scored goals. The German national team has a double on account of Bennett Rossmi (13, 38).
At the end of December 2021, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) stopped the youth world championship, held in Red Deer and Edmonton, Canada, due to the spread of COVID-19 among the tournament participants. The tournament was subsequently rescheduled for August 2022.
In March, the IIHF announced the suspension of the national teams of Russia and Belarus from all international tournaments due to the situation in Ukraine. The place of the Russian national team at the youth world championship was taken by the Latvian team.
