KHIMKI, 26 Jul – The Khimki Court of the Moscow Region on Wednesday refused to let American basketball player Brittney Griner out of her cage during interrogation due to the fact that she could not stand up to her full height, but allowed her to testify while sitting, a correspondent from the courtroom reports.
The defense asked the judge Anna Sotnikova to interrogate the athlete outside the cage: the girl “has a sore neck” due to the fact that she “has to bend down because of her height” – 2 meters 6 centimeters.
The judge, however, refused to release her, but added: “I can allow her to testify while sitting.” The lawyer agreed, and the interrogation continued in the new position.
In February, Griner, who arrived on a flight from New York, was detained at Sheremetyevo Airport. During the inspection, the Americans found “vapes” with a liquid with a specific smell in their hand luggage – the examination later determined that it was hash oil.
A criminal case was initiated on the smuggling of narcotic drugs, the girl was imprisoned in a pre-trial detention center. The sanction of the article provides for from 5 to 10 years in prison.
Earlier, the girl pleaded guilty in court, but rested on the fact that she had no intent to commit a crime, she “was going in a hurry.”
Greiner is one of the most titled basketball players in the world. She was a two-time Olympian and two-time world champion with Team USA and the 2014 WNBA Champion with Phoenix. The center is included in the official list of the 25 best players in the women’s NBA. He has been playing for the Yekaterinburg UMMC since 2015.
