The Kosovo Football Federation will contact CAS regarding incidents at the match against Romania
MOSCOW, September 14 – The Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK) is preparing an appeal to the disciplinary body of UEFA and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) due to incidents that occurred at the away match of the Kosovo national team against the Romanian national team in the Euro 2024 qualification, according to the official website of the organization.
The meeting, which took place in Bucharest, ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of the hosts. The match was interrupted for almost an hour because of Romanian fans who hung the banner “Kosovo is Serbia.” This prompted the Kosovar football players to leave the field. Romanians also hung the banner “Bessarabia is Romania.” Currently, this historical region is part of Moldova and Ukraine.
As noted in the release, fans of the Romanian national team chose “hate speech” towards the Kosovo team and damaged the image of their team with such expressions and unsportsmanlike behavior. FFK has asked UEFA’s disciplinary body to take action against “nationalist chants, banners and incitement to hatred” from Romanian fans. As part of the legal procedures, the federation will also prepare a claim with UEFA and CAS.
Earlier, the Romanian Football Federation condemned the behavior of the national team’s fans.
