MOSCOW, 25 Jul – The Russian Cycling Federation on its website congratulated the Russian cyclist of the Bora-Hansgrohe team Alexander Vlasov on fifth place in the general classification of the Tour de France.
On Sunday, Vlasov became fifth in the overall standings, losing 15 minutes and 46 seconds to the winner of the stage race, Dane Jonas Vingegor. At the sixth stage, the Russian had an accident, but returned to the peloton. “Tour de France” – 2022 was the debut for 26-year-old Vlasov.
“Alexander, congratulations on your high place in the general classification of the Tour de France. You have demonstrated excellent training and sports character, will and perseverance. Your debut on the Tour de France and a high place in the general classification was a real gift for the Cycling Federation sports and all Russian fans. We sincerely congratulate you and look forward to new successes,” the message says.
For the first time in 14 years, the Russian was in the top five in the overall standings of the Tour de France. In 2008, Denis Menshov became fourth. After the disqualification of the Austrian Bernard Kohl for doping, the representative of Russia rose to third place.
