MOSCOW, 6 Aug – The second racket of the world German Alexander Zverev said that he had diabetes.
At the age of four, Zverev was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
“As a child, I didn’t think much about it, then more and more. I want to show that great achievements can be made with this disease. Now, many years later, and with success behind me, I feel comfortable and confident enough to talk about it publicly,” Zverev was quoted as saying by the Süddeutsche Zeitung.
The tennis player also announced the creation of a charitable foundation that will help children with diabetes.
“I’m in a privileged position to lead my life the way I’ve always wanted to. I’ve always wanted to play tennis, go to tournaments all over the world and be one of the best tennis players in the world. I’m determined to succeed. I owe everything to my parents and brother, who have always unconditionally supported me on my path and continue to support me today,” the athlete added.
Zverev is 25 years old. He is the Tokyo 2020 Olympic singles champion.
