MOSCOW, 25 Jul – Figure skater Sofia Akatieva has not yet recovered from a leg cut, said coach Eteri Tutberidze.
“Sonya Akatieva has not yet recovered with us. While I was away, they collided, they cut her leg badly. She was already in shape, she was already jumping axel, salchow, sheepskin coat. And all over again. Spin the bast, start all over again. but now we have to develop. She came out, she saves herself. I say: “Wait, why are you saving yourself? You, thank God, not a joint, not a ligament, had a cut. That’s it, now let’s go,” Tutberidze said in a video posted on the Channel One website.
The Council of the International Skating Union (ISU) on March 1, against the backdrop of events in Ukraine, suspended Russian and Belarusian figure skaters, speed skaters and short track skaters from participating in international tournaments. In June, the ISU Congress approved this decision, it will remain in effect until further notice.
“Akatyeva, probably, would already be the world champion among juniors. And she is nobody. Without a title, without anything. And tomorrow is not promised to us. These athletes need me here and now. We may not have tomorrow,” – added Tutberidze.
Akatieva is 15 years old. He is a two-time champion of Russia among juniors, the owner of two gold medals in the junior Grand Prix series.
