MOSCOW, 22 Jul – The former champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in lightweight Brazilian Charles Oliveira said that he was ready to fight with the former title holder Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov if he defeated his compatriot Islam Makhachev.
Oliveira’s fight against Makhachev will take place on October 22, 2022 in Abu Dhabi at the UFC 280 tournament. Previously, this belt belonged to Nurmagomedov, who ended his career in October 2020 undefeated (29 wins in 29 fights).
“It would be interesting for me to have a fight with Khabib. I respect him very much, he has achieved a lot in sports. I think this fight would be interesting to the whole world. But you need to respect his decision to end his career. If after I beat Islam, he wants come back and fight me, I’ll be ready,” the Brazilian said at a press conference, the video of which was published on the promotion’s YouTube channel.
In May, Oliveira missed weight ahead of his title fight and was stripped of his lightweight title.
