Ukrainians were left without awards on the first day of Euro 2022 in fencing

The first sets of medals of the 2022 European Fencing Championship were played in Antalya, Turkey.

Ukrainian athletes failed to interfere in the distribution of awards in the individual tournaments of the women’s foil and men’s saber, Ukrinform reports.

The best among Ukrainians were foil fencer Kateryna Chentsova (15th place), who in the 1/8 finals lost to the world and European champion, Olympic medalist, Italian Alice Volpi (10:15), and saber fencer Yuriy Tsap (11th place), who lost for reaching the quarterfinals Beke Bazadze from Georgia (11:15).

The first winners of the continental championship were the German Leonie Ebert, who in the final defeated the multiple world and European champion, the 2012 Olympic champion Italian Arianna Errigo (15:11), and the Georgian Sandro Bazadze after defeating the silver medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, the Italian Luca Curatoli (15:11).

On Saturday, June 18, epee fencers and foil fencers will perform in Antalya.

The European Fencing Championship will last until June 22.
