Khabib’s brother goes the way of Makhachev. Did not beat top opponents, but already requires a fight for the belt
Orel’s influence is so great that Usman Nurmagomedov can get the title very soon.
On the night of July 22-23, the Bellator 283 tournament took place in Tacoma, Washington, USA, in the main event of which Jason Jackson defeated Douglas Lima by unanimous decision. The third most important fight of the evening was Khabib’s cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov, who met with American Chris Gonzalez.
Before the fight with Gonzalez, Usman was already in third place in the lightweight division, and his opponent, like the previous ones, was not in the top 10. Nurmagomedov confidently won all the fights in Bellator, but the opposition remained the main issue – he did not defeat a single fighter close in level to his own.

It was believed that the fight with Gonzalez would change this trend. Chris is not in the top ten, but has won six fights in Bellator with only one loss. Unfortunately, the opposition of the American is not much better than that of Usman. Perhaps the strongest opponent that Nurmagomedov’s rival defeated is Vladimir Tokov. And when meeting with the really dangerous Goichi Yamaguchi, Gonzalez flew off in the first round.
The duel with Usman lasted a minute less than with the Japanese. The duel began with careful reconnaissance from both sides, but soon Usman caught the opponent and transferred him to canvas. Gonzalez tried to get up – at that moment Nurmagomedov threw a guillotine around his neck, which became the final one. The American knocked – Usman finished in three minutes.

After the fight, Nurmagomedov announced his desire to fight for the belt and challenged Patricky Freire. Obviously, right now, no one will give Usman a fight for the title – even at this tournament, it was not he who attracted Freire’s attention, but Tofik Musaev, who quickly knocked out the first number of the division, Sidney Outlaw.
But Khabib’s influence could help the younger brother get the title faster – one win over a ranked opponent, and it’s likely that Scott Cocker will give Usman a shot. A bit like the story of one contender in the UFC lightweight division.
