MOSCOW, 24 July – The winner of the 12th stage of the championship “Formula 1” – French Grand Prix pilot “Red Bull” Max Verstappen said that the struggle in the race for him ended after the departure of the leading Charles Leclerc from Ferrari.
Verstappen won his seventh win of the season on Sunday.
“From the start I had good pace, I was pressing Leclerc. In this heat the tires were very hot, so I couldn’t overtake. I had only one opportunity in the lap. I tried to stay calm, stay close. “Stop early, but after that we didn’t know how the race would go. The car was fast today. Charles was unlucky, I hope he’s all right. After his retirement, I only had to look after the condition of the tires. Because of that that the pit lane is long here, it was impossible to make a second pit stop, you had to stay on the track. Tire wear was getting worse. My task was to save them until the finish line,” Verstappen said after the race.
Reigning world champion Verstappen leads the overall standings with 233 points. Leclerc has 170 points left.
