Verstappen extends his lead in the overall Formula 1 standings
MOSCOW, September 17 – Dutch Red Bull driver Max Verstappen managed to strengthen his leadership in the overall standings of Formula 1 drivers and increase the gap over his closest pursuer, despite the fact that he was left out of the podium at the Singapore Grand Prix.
The winner of the Singapore stage was the Spanish Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, who interrupted Verstappen’s record winning streak at 10 races. Briton Lando Norris from McLaren finished second, and seven-time Formula 1 champion Briton Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) finished third. Verstappen finished in fifth place.
At the end of the Singapore stage, Verstappen now has 374 points, and he is now ahead of his second Red Bull partner, Mexican Sergio Perez (223), by 151 points. Hamilton (180) took third place after the race, beating Spaniard Fernando Alonso (170) from Aston Martin by 10 points. The top five is completed by Singapore Grand Prix winner Sainz (142).
In the Constructors’ Championship, Red Bull retains its leadership (597 points), Mercedes is second (289), and Ferrari is third (265). Next are Aston Martin (217), McLaren (139), Alpin (81), Williams (21), Haas (12), Alfa Romeo (10) and Alfa Tauri. (5).
