What medicines are worth buying for the future. The doctor answers
There will be no shortage, but you can buy the most necessary things.
Let’s talk with the doctor.
Some global brands have left the Russian market, and there are also fewer imported goods. Does this mean that medicines will begin to disappear from the pharmacy counters and that it is necessary to stock up on medicines for the future?
What medicines should be stocked up?
First of all, these are products that will be useful in household “accidents” (plaster, iodine, peroxide), as well as medicines for the treatment of chronic diseases (such as diabetes, neurological problems). It will not be superfluous to always have on hand painkillers and remedies for colds, allergies, and poisoning. Everything else is optional.
Svetlana: According to representatives of the Ministry of Health, at the moment Russia has a sufficient supply of medicines, including vital ones. In case of chronic diseases or if you need to take certain drugs that are not produced in Russia, a small supply will come in handy. At least not to be affected by sudden price changes, possible sanctions or delays in the supply of the medicines you need.
Look in your first aid kit and dispose of expired products. And only then make a decision to buy new ones. Particular attention should be paid to vital medicines that do not have locally registered analogues – they should be stocked up. But it makes no sense to buy painkillers like ibuprofen and paracetamol. The same is true for drugs of similar action – on the recommendation of the attending physician, you can always switch to a similar treatment regimen.
What to do if the pharmacy does not have the right medicine?
Here everything is individual. It is better to make a decision about what to buy for future use together with your doctor. Only he will be able to choose a replacement for drugs and determine the frequency and duration of administration. No drugs should be taken on a permanent basis, as the body gets used to it and efficiency decreases.
Svetlana: Before running to the pharmacy, it is worth checking whether drugs with the necessary active ingredients are produced in Russia. This can be done on the website of the pharmaceutical directory “Vidal”. You need to drive in the search engine the international non-proprietary name of the active ingredient you need in the composition of the drug (INN) and in the drop-down list see in which country the production is located. If a drug with this INN is not produced in the Russian Federation, ask your doctor for advice on whether to buy a drug for the future or whether it is better to choose an analogue.
Will there be a drug shortage?
Here the question may arise: why then now it is not always possible to find the right remedy in a pharmacy? The fact is that many panicked and rushed to buy the necessary medicines “just in case”. Due to the rush demand for a number of products, some were left without the drug they needed – but this is temporary. Analysts predict that the problems with drugs will be resolved within a few weeks, and the situation will stabilize no later than the second quarter of 2022.
How and where is it better to store a first aid kit?
Svetlana: Medicines should be stored in a cupboard, drawer or box. At the same time, be inaccessible to children, stay away from sources of heat or humidity (bathroom, kitchen). Expired products cannot be accepted. If this happens by accident, you should immediately consult a doctor. To prevent the medicines from spoiling, it is best to store them in their original packaging (to avoid confusion) and in the indicated place (for example, dry and dark, cool).
