World Cup champion in the Italian national team Fabio Grosso leads Lyon
MOSCOW, September 16 – Italian Fabio Grosso has been appointed head coach of the French Lyon, according to the football club’s website.
The agreement with the specialist runs until June 30, 2024, with the possibility of extension for another season.
Earlier, Lyon dismissed coach Laurent Blanc, who had headed the club since October 2022. The French team is in last, 18th place in the standings of the national championship. In four rounds the club suffered three defeats and drew once.
Grosso is 45 years old. As a player, he became a world champion with Italy, scoring in the semi-finals and also converting a penalty in the 2006 final. From 2007 to 2009 he played for Lyon, won the French championship title and won the country’s Super Cup. After his career, he worked in the youth team of the Italian Juventus, and also headed the Italian Bari, Verona, Brescia, Frosinone and the Swiss Sion.
