Wriddhiman Saha was not playing in the final of the World Test Championship against New Zealand but for some time he came to keep on the field. However, Rishabh Pant returned to the field after two overs. Wriddhiman Saha was seen on the field in place of Rishabh Pant after 28 overs of New Zealand’s innings.
When Saha came on the field, commentator Ian Bishop was heard saying that Rishabh Pant had just left the field and was feeling unwell. Wriddhiman Saha replaces him as the officiating keeper.
Although Pant returned, Wriddhiman Saha also became a participant in the match for some time. Saha did not find a place in the last eleven. Due to Rishabh Pant’s batting, he was made a part of the team before Saha. Rishabh Pant scored 41 runs while batting in the second innings.
Significantly, the Indian team scored just 170 runs in the second innings against New Zealand and the Kiwi team got a modest target of 139 runs to win. Indian team’s batsmen were completely flop.
Former Indian player VVS Laxman while commenting said that due to poor batting, the pressure on the bowlers increased. The bowlers bowled well in the first innings despite the pressure but there was no support from the batsmen. Cheteshwar Pujara was a flop in both the innings. Apart from them, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were flops during the second innings. Shubman Gill too could not do well as an opener. This was the reason why the Indian team failed to put up a challenging score in the second innings and the Indian team fell behind in prestigious tournaments like the World Test Championship.
