If everything goes according to plan, then Yuvraj Singh can again return to Indian ground. If sources are to be believed, he can play T20 cricket for Punjab next season. Yuvraj Singh retired from international cricket last year i.e. in June 2019.
The 2011 ODI World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh trained Shubman Gill, Prabhasimran Singh, Abhishek Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh at home during the lockdown.
Abhishek, Prabhasimran and Anmol stayed at Yuvraj Singh’s house for two months. Only Shubman Gill used to go there from his house. Since then, there were speculations that he can take retirement and play for Punjab again. Not only this, the Punjab Cricket Association has also urged Yuvraj Singh to become a player and mentor of the state team.
The 38-year-old Yuvraj told Cricbuzz on Wednesday, ‘I enjoyed spending time with these youngsters and upon talking to them about different aspects of the game, I felt that they could adopt different things, which I told them. ‘
On his comeback plan, he said, “I had to hit the net to show him some other elements.” I was pleasantly surprised at how well I was hitting the ball. That, too, when I hadn’t put the bat in hand for a long time. ‘After the lockdown ban was lifted, Yuvraj spent most of his time playing golf and tennis.
Yuvraj said, “I trained him for two months and then I started batting in an off-season camp. I also scored runs in some practice matches. After one such season, Punjab Cricket Association secretary Puneet Bali contacted me. Asked me if I would reconsider coming out of retirement. ‘
Bali’s argument was that this star all-rounder is fit and batting great as always. Yuvraj admitted, “Initially I was not sure that I wanted to accept this proposal. Since I cannot play domestic cricket until I am cleared by the BCCI. But I couldn’t even ignore Bali’s request. I thought about it for about three or four weeks.’
