This was Benfica’s fifth League Cup title. Di María was widely praised for leading team to victory and his performance was outstanding and he always does such a great job to put team ahead.

Benfica scored first but Sporting then scored again which brought them level. A shootout called to decide outcome and Benfica won the match.

Di María helped his team to first goal with his skill and vision, passing four players. He then made a perfectly weighted pass to Andreas Skjolderup, who scored opening goal for Benfica.

Di María scored 13 goals in 26 appearances this season. He has now added to his impressive tally of 45 goals in 198 appearances for club.

Di María has won 36 trophies in his career, making him the highest-ever player to win the trophy, ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo. Lionel Messi (46), Dani Alves (43), Andrés Iniesta (38), Gerard Piqué (38), and Maxwell (37) have won more trophies than the Argentine winger.
